Description
An awl is a thin tapered metal shaft which ends in a sharp point, a hook or is slightly bent. It is used for puncturing different types of materials or for enlarging existing holes. It can also be used for sewing heavy materials such as canvas or leather. A sewing awl can be used to mark pleats, darts or buttonholes, feed hems into the presser foot of the sewing machine and to make holes for rivets.
